The Jewish Coalition for Rohingya Relief formed in December 2017, as the situation for the Rohingya community worsened. Currently, 615,500 Rohingya have been forced across the border to Bangladesh due to fleeing conflict in their native land.

Food insecurity has become an emergent crisis in East Africa and the surrounding areas. Currently 30 million people are living on the brink of starvation due to persistent drought and conflict in the region.

The Jewish Coalition for Haiti Relief was formed by 21 Coalition members immediately following the devastating earthquake that hit the country on January 12, 2010.
The Coalition provided support for quake victims’ immediate needs as well as assistance for the country’s long-term recovery.

Disaster type: Food Crisis
In 2011, the Horn of Africa was hit by a major food crisis that affected millions of people in drought-stricken areas of Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Djibouti. Somalia was the worst-hit country in the region and the United Nations declared a famine in two of its southern areas in July 2011. Tens of thousands of Somalis fled the drought and conflict-fraught country to neighboring Kenya, Ethiopia, and Djibouti seeking food and refuge.
